We design our own fabric.

It has been a long, exciting journey to come up with my own prints. I tried to get fabric made in this country but due the lack of eco-friendly coatings (yes, much of the coatings done in the US are toxic, believe it or not) and costs, I couldn’t. I thought long and hard about shipping my goods across the world, but was able to get a quality product made to Swiss Oeko-Tex & food-safe standards. I order 3,000 yds at a time of screen printed goods from Korea. That’s a lot of fabric!

I went to design school back in the day, but never learned photoshop or illustrator, and had no idea how to come up with my own “line”. So, I got help. I have found some fantastic artists to grow and develop the look and feel of my brand. Our first fabric was “VINTAGE”. The photo above shows us laying out the imagery
in Christine Joly de Lotbiniere’s wonderful studio. Our look is sophisticated, not stuffy, a little quirky and tends towards earthy / ethnic. Christine gets the imagery into layers in Photoshop and I play with colors to get them where I like them. Then we send the design off to the mill for Strike-offs. They send back a piece of fabric with their interpretation of my design. I have sent them back up to 4 times for adjustments to get the colors to “spark”. When it’s right, I feel it. I am always in search of the “spark”. It’s what drives me and drives my design and my life. Now that I have control of colors and mixes of prints, I can make color stories of my own!
